Dog Killed, Pedestrian Hospitalized in Highway 99 Crash

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) - A driver exiting a southbound Highway 99 off-ramp to westbound Florin Road fell asleep at the wheel and hit a signal light where a pedestrian and a dog were standing, authorities say.

California Highway Patrol confirms the dog died. The pedestrian was transported to Kaiser South with major injuries.

CHP says the driver was coming home from working a graveyard shift when the accident happened.

Crews are now working to fix the signal light as you merge onto Florin Road.
