New Officers Bring Stockton Police Officers To Highest Level Since 2010

STOCKTON (CBS13) — The Stockton Police Department has passed its goal of hiring 80 officers for the year.

The department swore in new officers on Thursday. The officers were hired through Measure A, which was a sales tax approved by voters to increase law enforcement hiring.

The 81 officers hired this year brings the department to 409 officers, the highest level since 2010.

Chief Eric Jones says the goal for the next fiscal year is to hire another 80 officers, but he stresses the hiring is about quality, not quantity.
