One Year Later, Manteca Mother Searching For Killer

MANTECA (CBS13) — A mother is mourning the death of her son who was murdered one year ago in Manteca.

Stephanie Marquez says her son never had a chance when he was shot and killed on July 4, 2015. She says he was shot in the back while visiting a friend on West Yosemite Avenue in Manteca.

"He was such a good boy," she said.

It was 12 months ago -- but it's like it happened just yesterday.

"He got good grades in school he played sports. He was quiet," she said.

And so are any possible witnesses. Stephanie Marquez says her son, Antonio Brown, was on W. Yosemite Avenue last July 4 at a friend's home watching television.

"He was just hanging out with his girlfriend," she said.

That's when a shot rang out, a bullet came through the front door striking him in the back. His girlfriend called 911 but within minutes Antonio was dead.

"We miss him. It's hard to believe that a year has gone by already you know," she said.

Marquez says a year later and police have yet to capture his killer because no witnesses have come forward.

"I'm angry, I'm hurt," she said.

She and her family are now starting a campaign hoping flyers will keep the investigation alive.

When we first spoke with Manteca Police, they said they weren't sure if someone inside the home was targeted, or if he was simply the victim of a stray bullet.

"He had no enemies everybody loved him. We all loved him," she said.

If you have any information about this case, call the Manteca Police Department at (209) 456-8210.
