Man Accused Of Giving Young Boys Marijuana-Laced Candy

STOCKTON (CBS13) - Authorities have arrested a man suspected of giving a young boys candy laced with marijuana.

The incident happened Wednesday. According to the San Joaquin County Sheriff's Office, deputies responded to a hospital that evening to investigate the poisoning of a 6-year-old boy.

Deputies talked to 6-year-old and an 8-year-old at the hospital. The boys told the deputies that the boys' mother's cousin's husband, 31-year-old Perfecto Monroy, had given them candy that contained marijuana.

Deputies were soon outside of Monroy's home along the 1500 block of N. Filbert Street. A search of his home revealed a marijuana growing operation in the backyard with about a dozen plants. Monroy also had six 10-gallon bags full of marijuana in the home, deputies say. A semi-automatic pistol with a high-capacity magazine was also found inside.

Monroy was arrested and booked at San Joaquin County Jail. He is facing numerous drug charges.

The 6-year-old has since been treated and released from the hospital.
