City Councilwoman Reinette Senum posted:
“This was completely incited by America’s police force. They have obviously been given directives to go out there and kill.”
Ewing said the post is untrue and hurtful.
“You paint a picture that every police officer is corrupt and that were out looking to kill somebody is just completely unacceptable,” he said.
Officer Ewing read the post as Senum saying all police are corrupt, but the Councilwoman says that’s not it.
“Black lives lost, the lives of police officers lost is a tragedy. It’s not mutually exclusive to the fact that we need to have high standards with our police force. We lost a lot of those high standards and we want them back,” she said.READ MORE: VIDEO: Coyote Leaves Dead Cat On East Sacramento Lawn
Outrage and support are twofold on Senum’s Facebook.
But Ewing said this is an inflammatory statement and they’re not paid to kill leading the police force to take a vote of no confidence, asking for her resignation.
“It’s not something that anybody wants to do and certainly there’s been no directive for us to go do such a thing,” he said.
Senum said she was talking about corruption, not necessarily Nevada City Police.
“The good police officers who are out there doing their job, I have the highest regard for them,” she said.
While the post was a blow to officers, Ewing said his team has also received some much needed support.
“I don’t even know how to say just how much we appreciate the support from the community we get and that’s why it is so hurtful for somebody that the community trusted to come here and make decisions for the city for this community to say the things that were said,” he said.MORE NEWS: Jury Finds Eric Holder Guilty Of Murdering Rapper Nipsey Hussle
Several hours later Senum deleted the post.
