SACRAMENTO (CBS13) – Move over 916, a new area code is coming to Sacramento.

The California Public Utilities Commission revealed Monday its two proposals on adding a new area code to the region.

One requires mandatory 10-digit dialing, while the other option would be splitting the 916 boundary in half and giving some residents new area codes.

The commission is seeking the public’s input on the matter, but many people say they’re not too concerned with the changes.

The commission will study the options and make a decision. These changes won’t start taking place until late 2017.
