Gigabit Internet Coming To Roseville

ROSEVILLE (CBS13) — Roseville Internet users are about to see a big bump in their Internet speeds as Consolidated Communications, Inc. expands its gigabit service.

The company is expected to unveil the service on Tuesday.

The gigabit offering will be available to 16,000 fiber-to-the-home customers in the Roseville area for $69.95 per month. Customers will be provided with a gigabit router, but they can choose to use their own.

Roseville is the third city in the country to get gigabit Internet from CCI and the first in the region. Comcast has offered a 2 gigabit connection to Sacramento residents, but at a significantly higher $299.95 per month.

CCI chose Roseville because many of the equipment upgrades necessary for gigabit coverage have already been finished. The company plans to expand its coverage to customers throughout the Sacramento region, but they are not putting a timeline on that rollout.

Customers may notice a speed difference between a wired and a wireless connection depending on their wireless devices. That's because the potential speed of the connection is higher than some wireless networking protocols can handle.
