ELK GROVE (CBS13) – Police are investigating a shooting that happened along Highway 99 early Tuesday morning.

Sacramento police say the vehicle was shot at while on southbound Highway 99 around 2 a.m. A passenger inside was hit, but the driver was not.

The driver managed to get off the freeway and stopped at the Dutch Bros. location in Elk Grove off of Elk Grove Boulevard to call for help. Police taped off part of the parking lot for the investigation.

Investigators believe the driver and victim know the suspect from a previous encounter.

The passenger hit in the shooting has been transported with non-life threatening injuries.

Police are still at the scene investigating, but the Dutch Bros. remains open.
