Former Carmichael Summer Camp Counselor Arrested On Child Porn Charges

CARMICHAEL (CBS13) — A former local summer camp counselor is in jail after an arrest on his college campus has him facing a long list of child porn charges

University of San Francisco student Sam Kerfoot, 20, is in trouble.

San Francisco police allege they found 600 child pornography photos on Kerfoot's computers, many of children under the age of 3.

Kerfoot's arrest brought relief to people who live in his old Carmichael neighborhood.

"I don't want these guys near our kids," Carmichael's Tim Grady Saudi. "If he's a dirtbag, I don't want him here."

Kerfoot's Facebook page includes selfies and his work history in Sacramento County, where he held several jobs as summer camp counselor before college.

He was a counselor at the Mission Oaks Park And Recreation Department Camp Kids. He was also a counselor at the San Juan Unified School District's Camp Winthers, where he taught music.

Both jobs put him in close proximity to hundreds of children ranging in age from 6 years old to high school.

"It breaks my heart," Sacramento's Judy Pickolick said. "Parents bring their kids here to be entrusted to these adults and it breaks my heart to think that any of the kids here could have possibly been hurt by somebody."

Both the parks department and school district say San Francisco police have not contacted them about any known victims.

San Juan Unified School District releasing a statement by email reading;

"Our Safe Schools office is reaching out to law enforcement and will work cooperatively to assist the investigation in any way possible including the notification of families. "

A child porn arrest of a college student and former camp counselor, leaving his former summer camp employers suddenly scrutinizing every part of his work-place past.
