Trump's triumph over Clinton came well into Wednesday morning. Late Tuesday night, Clinton said she's "sorry" she didn't win the election, adding "this is painful, and it will be for a long time."

During Wednesday's speech, she wished the best for her competitor.

"I hope that he will be a successful president for all Americans," said Clinton.

She acknowledged the pain of her loss in her dream to become the first woman president.

"This is painful and it will be for a long time, but I want you to remember this campaign was not about just one person. It's about the country we love," she said.

In Florida, Clinton took Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach counties in a landslide. She also took Orlando, Tampa- St. Petersburg, Gainesville and Tallahassee.

Trump got trounced by Hillary in California, whose leans heavily to the left. Clinton won 55 of the electoral votes and 61 percent of the popular vote. Trump only managed to capture 33 percent of the votes.

Trump's win ended eight years of Democratic dominance of the White House.

In his victory speech, Trump asked Americans to unite saying he would work for every American.

"I pledge to every citizen of our land that I will be President for all Americans and this is so important to me. For those who have chosen not to support me in the past, in which there were a few people, I am reaching out to you for your guidance and your help so that we can work together and unify our great country," he said. "As I have said from the beginning, ours was not a campaign, but rather an incredible and great movement."

Clinton's running mate, Tim Kaine, spoke before Clinton came out saying she was proud of her.

"I am proud of Hillary Clinton because she has been and is a great history maker," said Kaine.

He talked up Clinton and her love for the country.

"She knows our country for what it is…She's deeply in love with it," said Kaine.

Trump, the 45th president, will come into power with a Congress that is fully under Republican control. Despite that. Trump will have to deal with fractures within his own party.
