Friday:

  • Cloudy, but dry. High 60.
  • Wind advisory for the sierra through Saturday morning for southwest winds gusting 40-50 mph (will likely affect some lift operations at resorts that are already open.)

Saturday:

Rain will move through the valley during the morning and early afternoon, and snow will really get going in the mountains during the afternoon/evening.

  • Heaviest round of rain and snow likely overnight Saturday into Sunday.
  • The National Weather Service in Sacramento has issued a winter weather advisory for heavy snow above 4,000 feet from 4 p.m. Saturday to noon Sunday:

- Snow accumulations. From 8 to 12 inches with a maximum of 15 inches in the highest elevations.
- Breezy to gusty winds with possible whiteout conditions at times.

Sunday:

  • It'll still be snowing in the mountains, with big travel impacts likely.
  • Rain showers are possible for the valley.
