Dog Tests Positive For Rabies In Calaveras County

CALAVERAS COUNTY (CBS13) – Health officials say a dog has tested positive for rabies in Calaveras County.

Calaveras County Animal Services says the positive test, done this month, comes after multiple wildlife animals also tested positive for rabies this year. The dog did not have a current vaccination for rabies, officials say.

Several people are receiving the preventative rabies measure due to coming in contact with the dog. None of the people have tested positive for rabies.

It's not known where the dog was infected.

Veterinarians says horses are at most risk of being infected with rabies from wild animals. Vaccination and prevention is the only treatment for rabies, health officials say.
