MERCED, Calif. (AP) — A former California pastor was convicted of raping his two adopted daughters and then attempting to kill them and another man.
The Fresno Bee reports Raul Diaz Moreno, of Merced, was found guilty Friday of 14 charges, including multiple counts of attempted murder, assault, shooting at police, aggravated sexual assault, sodomy by force, lewd acts and oral copulation with minors.
Diaz Moreno’s attorney, Kathy Lynn Trosclair, says her client plans to appeal the verdict. She also says Diaz Moreno may seek a motion for a new trial.
Police say Diaz Moreno, who once led the Victory Outreach church, opened fire Oct. 28, 2016, shooting one of the girls in the head and the other in the leg. Diaz Moreno also shot a man who was helping the young women.
The shooting prompted a nearly three-hour standoff with police.
