Placer Sheriff's Office Warns Of Raging River

PLACER COUNTY (CBS13) — The Placer County Sheriff's Office has a warning regarding the American River.

Because of the recent storms dumping record snow in the Sierra, the water is moving at ten times its normal speed right now.

Water is rushing down the American River confluence at about ten times its usual speed, thanks to a successful winter! Anyone familiar with the area will know some trees and sandbars are no longer visible, due to higher water levels. The river is extremely cold during this time of year (40 degrees, brr!!), and is expected to stay near freezing until mid-summer.
