VACAVILLE (CBS13) — Members of a Vacaville mosque have been told they can’t pray in their own building during the holiest time of the year in Islam.

City leaders said the mosque, which is located inside a home on Bush Street, doesn’t have the right permit because they are worshipping in a residential zone.

This is the first time there’s been an issue in the nearly two decades the mosque has been there. The Vacaville fire chief said the issue was investigated after a complaint from a resident.

The city said they are required to investigate if someone complains about a permitting issue. The mosque applied for a permit but was denied because there’s no designated parking.

“It was shocking because I don’t know, why? What is the problem? We’ve been in this community for a long time,” said Sima Karimi, a member of the mosque.

Karimi said this closure is a huge disruption during one of the holiest months of the year, Ramadan. Being able to pray, together, is important to Islamic culture.

“Our mosque is closed. We are so upset. We don’t know what we should do. It almost made me cry,” said Zarlasht Ansary, a member of the Mosque.

Vacaville Fire Chief Kris Concepcion said the city is willing to work with the mosque to get a permit and solve the parking issue.

“Our code enforcement in the city is complaint-based, so we’re not out looking for different things, we’re not out patrolling,” Concepcion said.

Concepcion said the mosque is still allowed to host prayer sessions, as long as their building is being used as a home, but someone has to live there.

“We’re not discouraging anything were not stopping anything from happening,” Concepcion said.

That’s not the solution mosque president Samim Ansary is looking for. He said his mosque is a registered nonprofit and he wants an official permit. He’s said he’s working with the city on the parking issue but is struggling to get straight answers.

“We are a small community but peaceful and we just want to have a place of worship like everybody else,” Ansary said.

Ansary said he feels the complaint was targeted, and he feels pressured to leave the area.

“We don’t have a neighbor here. All of the houses around us there’s no houses. So I don’t know who complained at this sensitive time,” he said.

CBS13 asked leaders about the nature of the complaint, was it targeted, was it a form of profiling? They didn’t want to speculate about that.

The nations largest Muslim advocacy’s organization, CAIR, is investigating the issue and providing legal advice to the Mosque.

There is a special place in Hell for people like the anonymous coward who made this obviously hate-based complaint. And it was no accident that this happened during Islam’s holiest time of the year. As is so often the case, one toxic POS with his/her own hate-based agenda ruins things for a group of American citizens who simply want to exercise their First Amendment right to freedom of religion, an amendment which states, in part: “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof”.

Trump is goose-stepping ever closer to Fascism; God help us and the U.S.

    1. Hey Eileen,

Not sure how the first amendment, nor Trump has anything to do with a complaint made about not having ample parking to ensure this facility is up to code. The complaint itself was clearly justified, as the city found they were using the facility, which is a house in a residential zone, for a purpose they do not have a permit for, which is due to not being able to provide ample parking.

I can understand the article’s writers wanted to do their best to make it appear that the city of Vacaville somehow is barring this group from specifically praying, when what it’s doing is preventing the use of the facility for anything other than residential, a place of worship included.

It’s unfortunate people such as yourself either do not take the time to read the article, and only react to the headline. It’s possible you did read the article in its entirety, but lack the reading comprehension to make sense of it, which would fit your response, which mentions a “Hate-based agenda”, Fascism, and Trump.

Just so you’re aware, if you buy a house in a residential neighborhood, and decide to turn it into a church or synagouge, and you don’t have a permit and your facility does not qualify for one, the exact same thing will happen to you. The ONLY difference is that CBS 13 Sacramento will not write an article about you, because well, it’s much harder to try and create fake racism against Christians than it is Muslims, and their writers just don’t have the talent for such a task.

Have a great day Eileen, and watch out for those “Fascists”, eerr, city inspectors…..

      1. Thank you so much for telling it like it really is.

      2. Jeff Friedman says:

You’re making entirely too much sense for this hate mongerer to comprehend. Facts are not for everyone.

    2. Greg San says:

They do this to Christian churches based in homes all over the country. This is not a new phenomenon. It only gets press because they are Muslims.

    3. Kurt Smith says:

take a pill and relax already. Almost always these kinds of complaints are generated by too many cars parked up and down the street with nothing to do with what’s going on inside. It’s bad enough you sounding off like that without knowing the facts, but stewing it in hate in vitriol first isn’t going to help you.

    4. Ferde Grofe says:

And President Trump has what to do with this?

  2. Johnnie Rock says:

Seen this enforced for Christians good to see no respect of person is going on here.

  3. Josh Michael says:

It is scary to see how they are infiltrating congress and to listen to their points of view on various matters. As they become more populous we will be seeing more of them in decision making roles in our government . A good Read – regardless of your political stance.

Dr. Carson is a very intelligent man, both in surgery and in critical thinking. Everyone must read this as we welcome Muslims into our mainly Christian country.

This has been the underlying premise that has kept Christianity and Islam at war for almost 2000 years. They cannot and will not assimilate into any society that does not embrace their theocratic views. Europe has already suffered a recent invasion of Muslims under the guise of refugees that will destroy Europe as we and they knew it. To ignore the same here will be at our peril.

This denial has been the downfall of every non-Muslim nation who has refused to or has been afraid to believe it – do not fall into the trap of thinking anyone who is aware is racist or paranoid – the informed always have the advantage.

I want adults and children to understand this regarding MUSLIMS.

    CAN MUSLIMS BE GOOD AMERICANS?

This is very interesting and we all need to read it from start to finish. And send it on to everyone. Maybe this is why our American Muslims are so quiet and not speaking out about any atrocities.

Can a good Muslim be a good American?

Theologically – No. Because his allegiance is to Allah, The moon god of Arabia .

Religiously -No. Because no other religion is accepted by his Allah except Islam. (Quran,2:256)(Koran)

Scripturally – No. Because his allegiance is to the five Pillars of Islam and the Quran

Geographically – No. Because his allegiance is to Mecca, to which he turns in prayer five times a day.

Socially – No. Because his allegiance to Islam forbids him to make friends with Christians or Jews.

Politically – No. Because he must submit to the mullahs, who teach annihilation of Israel and destruction of America , the great Satan.

Domestically – No Because he is instructed to marry four women and beat and scourge his wife when she disobeys him. (Quran 4:34

Intellectually – No. Because he cannot accept the American Constitution since it is based on Biblical principles and he believes the Bible to be corrupt.

Philosophically -No. Because Islam, Muhammad, and the Quran do not allow freedom of religion and expression. Democracy and Islam cannot co-exist. Every Muslim government is either dictatorial or autocratic.

Spiritually – No. Because when we declare ‘one nation under God,’ The Christian’s God is loving and kind, while Allah is NEVER referred to as Heavenly father, nor is he ever called love in the Quran’s 99 excellent names.

Therefore, after much study and deliberation…Perhaps we should be very suspicious of ALL MUSLIMS in this country. They obviously cannot be both ‘good’ Muslims and ‘good’ Americans. Call it what you wish, it’s still the truth. You had better believe it. The more who understand this, the better it will be for our country and our future.

The religious war is bigger than we know or understand!

  4. Raymond Cervenka says:

I recall a few years back a group was no allowed to have a Bible Study because of teh same reasons.
So at least they cannot scream racism – even though Islam (Muslim) is not a race.

  5. Worshiping in a residence is illegal in California. Well that seems to clear up some things about that strange state.

  6. Bob Nunemaker says:

As many problems I might have with Muslims as a group, this is BS. In America, you can worship as you please. So does this mean I can’t have bible study in my home? Or pray with the kids before bedtime?

I know the main reason for this is the unease of the community and the concern they could be coming together to plan things. But that can’t be a reason for preventing worship.

Certainly, the radical Muslim leaders wouldn’t reciprocate their defense of our rights. Indeed, many of them want to enforce Sharia law in Minnesota and other high-density Muslim areas. But we shouldn’t violate our constitution just because they want to or because it makes us uncomfortable. It’s a slippery slope otherwise…

That said, if the concern is about parking, that is a valid issue. As long as it’s enforced to a specific level and includes when others are having parties. In other words, if the problem is more than 20 cars parked for a gathering, it should be for ANY gathering. If that’s the logic and concern, then it is valid IMO.

  7. Gosh ignorance and paranoia at the umpteenth level. These days everyone has an agenda. You need to be very careful who you listen to. Islam believes in God of Abraham and Moses. Allah is just arabic for God and has no plural form nor gender. Muslims accept both Bible and Torah and all the stories of old testament are in Quran (moses parting seas/Noah’s ark/King Soloman etc). It is same as when Christians accept Judaism and Moses but believe Jesus as Supreme, while Jews reject Jesus and Christianity. Muslims believe in both Judaism and Christianity but believe Mohammad who was just a prophet exactly like Jesus/Moses and one hundred and 24 thousand other prophets that God (Allah) sent throughout history, so people could discover God through their experiences and be better humans. Muslims believe in all the miracles of Jesus/Virgin Mary and the bible. Please find any other religion that validates 95% of what Christianity and Judaism is. The only and big difference is Muslims, and to some extent Jews have a strict belief in God as a singular being, something very unique and all powerful God, with no form or gender. Hence Jesus who was a messenger from God is not the son of God in Islam. Sorry for the lecture. And yeah if the mosque has no permits then they should move. I can see why people get conflicted, since they got away with running it for 20+ years they immediately associate it by blaming current administration..aka boss man Trump. But then again when you thrive by dividing people then it is fair to be blamed.

To all my conservative friends (and yes they are in every religion Islam/Hindus/Christians/Jews/Monks) i have one question for you: If someone is different or says something differently please be curious and evaluate it without bias. For if you are too close minded then you probably would have stoned who ever is your favorite messiah (Jesus/Moses/Mohammad) if you were present at the time when these wonderful people came. There is no difference between you and the people who did not accept these special people when they brought a new message to the people at that time and instead tortured them.

    1. Pete Holzmann says:

You make some interesting claims, @surfmagnet.

Yes, the Quran mentions Moses and Noah and Solomon. But what is written about them… and so many others… is radically different, painting a very different picture.

And while it is true that “Allah” is simply Arabic for “God”, the Bible God and Quran Allah are vastly different.
I give you most of one statement by Jesus to highlight the difference (the rest is similar, go look it up 🙂 “If you love only those who love you, why should you get credit for that? Even sinners love those who love them!…Love your enemies! Do good to them. Lend to them without expecting to be repaid. Then your reward from heaven will be very great, and you will truly be acting as children of the Most High, for he is kind to those who are unthankful and wicked.” (Luke 6: 32, 35)

Please find somewhere in the Quran where Allah loves (hub) those who hate Him. This is the most important difference: Allah has a human type of love for those who love Him.

God in the Bible loves 100% of everyone, even those who hate Him. We don’t have to do ANYthing to earn the love of God. He already loves us.

(Not sure why you bring a president into this. He has nothing to do with it, and while he is blamed as divisive, it is those who blame who are dividing AFAIK 🙂 🙂 )

  8. Dave Hardesty says:

This is nothing more than a media sensationalized hit piece o mislead the public into think that the local government is abusing the 1st Amendment right to worship without government control. .

Had this been a Christian group and not in social liberal CA I doubt seriously it would have made the news.

For certain if the headline read, “A Large Group In A Vacaville Home Were Told They Need A Permit To Continue Prayer Sessions There,” no one would really care except those already in violation of City Code ordinances.

Churches, Temples and Mosques where large groups of people pray and worship are not homes and there are safety concerns the cities have to maintain. Had this been a large mansion with ample parking I doubt if anything would have been said. No violation of 1st Amendment Rights have taken place and this is just fodder for those who hate Muslims or any type of relogious people of any denomination.

CBS – No interesting news? Let’s manufacture some to distract low information people and see if we can breed more hate and violence.

  9. David Alster says:

This same issue has popped up a few times with Christians having church services or bible studies in a residential home. I could see the point if it gets too big, then you have fire code, fire escape/exits, handicap parking, restroom etc etc issues. Depends how informal and how large.

  10. Those death cultists need to be eradicated from the planet.
When they’re not praying to their pedo god, they’re surfing pron and planning suicide bombings.
