EL DORADO COUNTY (CBS13) — Three men have been arrested in connection to the shooting death of El Dorado County Deputy Brian Ishmael on Wednesday morning, the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office said in a Thursday afternoon press conference.

Juan Carlos Vazquez-Orozco, 20, and Romiro Bravo Morales, 22, said to be Mexican nationals, were arrested along with 47-year-old Christoper Garry Ross, the owner of the marijuana grow where the shooting happened.

Ishmael was shot and killed while he and a San Joaquin County off-duty deputy on a ride-along were responding to a 911 call regarding pot plants being stolen from a home in the area of Sand Ridge Road.

Vazquez is being charged with murder and assault with a deadly weapon. Morales is being charged as an accessory to murder. Ross, the only occupant of the residence and the owner of the garden who made the 911 call, is being charged with involuntary manslaughter.

The El Dorado County Sheriff said in the press conference that if Ross had been truthful about the circumstances of his call for police, Ishmael’s death may not have happened. Ross reportedly failed to inform that Vazquez and Morales, the men he accused of theft, were his business partners.

The marijuana farm contained 75 plants and was also confirmed as an illegal grow, the sheriff said.

A spokesperson for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) issued a statement about Vazquez and Morales’ immigration status Thursday.

“At this time, we do not have any information on these individuals. However, we do expect to learn more about them in the coming days. This is another example of how sanctuary city laws, like SB54, bars our agency from getting into local jails to even conduct interviews,” ICE spokesman Paul Prince said.

Build the wall so we don’t get these Mexican criminals strolling across the border. What is wrong with enforcing our Country’s laws?
Newsom and his cohorts are also responsible for this deputies death.

  2. Jon says:

Any bets that they are not illegals?

  3. Cara says:

Did Newson give them green cards to grow pot? That’s right, illegals are now called mexican nationals (dignified) after all the illegals aren’t responsible, their guns are. So it’s the NRA’s fault and these boys just got lost somewhere north of San Diego. This young deputy’s blood is on your hands Governor. Shame on you as you have shamed California.

  4. Susan Sterling says:

Pls let me know….is a “Mexican Nationalist” the same as an Illegal Immigrant?

  5. George Bowers says:

Maybe Newsom can pass a new law to make the family’s life better! I think Newsom should be charged with accesory to Murder! And maybe now they will turn them loose like they do the others and they can get the bleeding hearts family and the bleeding hearts can live on to tell us how we need to be compassionate!

  6. Michael Jensen says:

They’re not “mexican nationals”, they’re illegal aliens. Otherwise ICE wouldn’t be commenting.
Stop tap dancing around and avoiding the truth by turning a blind eye to reality.

  7. MuzzerFuzzer says:

Mexican Nationals???? Wow, the media sure contorts itself to keep from telling the truth to the American citizens. If this heinous crime does not make the national media, it is our responsibility to spread the news. Post it on all social media accounts that you have access to.

  8. T Curry says:

Can a Mexican National get the death penalty for murder in the US? If not, why not. They all should get the death penalty and when Newsom gets booted we can proceed with that. Don’t put them on trial until Newsom is out and his moratorium on the death penalty is overturned.
