NEVADA CITY (CBS13) — A pedestrian in a crosswalk died Sunday afternoon in Nevada City after getting hit by a pickup truck.

Officer Steele with the California Highway Patrol Grass Valley Division said the crash happened at around 5:40 p.m. in the Highway 49 and Newtown Road intersection.

The pedestrian, a 49-year-old woman out of Grass Valley, was walking in a crosswalk when a Dodge pickup truck driven by a 45-year-old Grass Valley man traveling southbound on the highway hit her.

Steele said drugs or alcohol do not appear to be factors in this incident.

As of now, no arrests have been made. The identities of the two involved have not yet been released.

The investigation is still underway and crews will be on the scene for approximately two more hours.

Officials advise avoiding the area until the scene is cleared.

    FYI, There really isn’t an action crosswalk there. 😢😢

    Again, there is no crosswalk there and it’s quite dark at that time. May be now that someone was killed a circulation light will be installed!

  3. Right – no crosswalk there. She needed reflective clothing and a flashlight to cross there at that time. So sorry for all involved.

    There are THREE crosswalks there. Crosswalks do not have to be painted. Anyone with a drivers license should know this or be sent to a remedial driver’s education class.

    Crosswalks are marked with broad white or yellow lines across the road. They designate areas where pedestrians may cross the road. If you do not see a crosswalk, pedestrians may still cross at intersections where roadways meet; this is called an unmarked crosswalk.

    Hold up – 3 crosswalks?? The explanation of an unmarked crosswalk would work IF it was an intersection – but it’s not. It’s a T. Why 49 and Newtown road are a T. If you drove straight across Hwy 49 from Newtown, you would drive onto grass.

    Why = Hwy / typo
