A Thanksgiving Miracle: Missing 75-Year-Old Woman And 2 Grandchildren From Fairfield Found Safe

FAIRFIELD (CBS13) — A 75-year-old woman and her two grandchildren from Fairfield who were reported missing Wednesday have been found safe, the California Highway Patrol announced on Twitter Thursday morning.

Fairfield police, who announced Wednesday afternoon that the family was missing, said the three were located by Pinole police just after 9:30 a.m. Thursday morning in the city of Pinole. All three have been reunited with their family.

It's the Thanksgiving miracle Devante Butler was hoping for. He's been praying for his neighbors' safe return.

"And the prayers were answered so I'm glad, I'm glad about that," he said. "Can't wait to see her green Acura pulling back up in the parking stall."

Police said 75-year-old Sandra Young, who has dementia, and her two grandchildren hadn't been seen in three days. The grandmother's disappearance led Fairfield PD to send out an alert, urging the community to be on the lookout.

CHP said the family was spotted at a Pinole gas station after the owner recognized them from photos on Twitter. The owner called 911 and Pinole police responded to the gas station and located the family.

The news is now bringing joy to Victoria Rosas' heart. Young was once her substitute teacher.

"It's actually pretty warm," Rosas said. "It is sweet that they are home now. They can celebrate with their family."

Fairfield PD isn't saying much about where the three may have been in the time they were missing, only choosing to share that they have been reunited with family.

Young and her two grandchildren, 9-year-old Jayden Hill and 7-year-old Katalya Hill, were last heard from by relatives on Sunday, Fairfield police said. The family said Young became the guardian of her two grandchildren when their own parents were killed in a Highway 12 crash several years ago.
