The incident began with a violent assault on the child's mother around 10 p.m. Sunday in a home in the 500 block of South 11th Street.

San Jose PIO Gina Tepoorten said officers responded to the home on calls reporting a female screaming. When officers arrived, they located an adult female with at least one stab wound. Officers determined that the female victim had been assaulted and stabbed by her boyfriend, identified as suspect Victor Magana.

Magana left with their 2-year-old daughter. The woman was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Police thanked the media and public for helping to locate the girl.
