3 People Arrested In Connection With String Of Rocklin Car Burglaries Involving 75 Vehicles
ROCKLIN (CBS13) — Authorities arrested three Sacramento residents in connection with a string of car burglaries involving 75 vehicles from Rocklin.
"It's definitely a lot. I would say in the last 10 years that I've been here that's probably the most we've had in one series," Sergeant Greg Jensen of Rocklin Police Department said.
Jensen told CBS13 that all of the burglaries occurred during the early Sunday morning hours starting at approximately 3:30 a.m.
The Rocklin Police Department said officers initially responded Sunday morning to reports of a vehicle burglary in the 1300 block of Ridgeview Circle. Officers found several vehicles at the scene that were burglarized.
"Then we just started hearing this thudding and we weren't sure what it was. And then I realized it was a hammer against a glass window," Zach Hadsell said.
Camille Curtis said she woke up in the middle of the night to shards of glass around her car.
"It's just disappointing I guess. I don't have a lot of money so it's just tough," Curtis said. "My roommate also got her window shattered. Her car is the one right next to me. She was really upset this morning. She had to be late to work."
During this investigation, officers said they received calls regarding a burglary at a separate location. When responding to the second location, officers again found several burglarized cars.
Officers said one victim alerted police that a credit card that was stolen from their vehicle was being used in Roseville.
The Roseville Police Department said officers were able to locate a vehicle containing the suspects believed to be responsible and initiated a traffic stop. Roseville police said a search of the vehicle uncovered property connected to the vehicle burglaries in Rocklin.
Mia Gonzalez, 18, Larry Smith, 20, and a 14-year old kid, all from Sacramento, were arrested and booked in the Placer County Jail and juvenile hall on charges of vehicle burglary, conspiracy to commit a crime and the unauthorized use of credit card information.
Police said approximately 75 vehicles were burglarized in this case.
People CBS13 spoke with said that nothing too valuable was stolen from their vehicles, but the number of cars that were broken into and the break-ins themselves are still staggering.
"This is the first time. We've lived here three years and no crime, nothing like this situation," Pudov said.
"Why are you doing this? Especially because you're getting caught in the end anyways over something so small and little. I don't know, people are crazy," Curtis said.
