MARYSVILLE (CBS13) — A “Mighty Ducks” star was arrested in Marysville over the weekend for residential burglary and being under the influence of a controlled substance, police said.

Marysville police say 40-year-old Shaun Weiss was arrested just before 7 a.m. on Sunday. Officers were called to the 600 block of 11th Street that morning by a homeowner who said an unknown male was inside his garage.

Lou Binnenger found his car window smashed in inside his own garage on Sunday morning, and a stranger sitting in the back seat.  Marysville police say Weiss was inside Binnenger’s car.

They found Weiss had forced his way into the homeowner’s vehicle by shattering a window with a hammer he found in the garage. According to police, Weiss appeared to be under the influence of meth. He also reportedly told police this was not his residence and the vehicle did not belong to him.

As a teen, Weiss was a Disney movie star in films like “Heavyweights” and “Mighty Ducks.” Binnenger says once the Marysville Police Department discovered who his alleged intruder was, the chief called him.

“It made me sick to my stomach. It made me really sad,” Binnenger said. “I felt bad for him.”

Binnenger, it turns out, counsels drug addicts at the Yuba County jail, where Weiss is now in custody.

“I’ve seen everything…I’ve seen every profession, wipe out,” he said.

According to Weiss’s own Facebook posts, he was seeking treatment for addiction in 2018 after an arrest for public intoxication in Butte County. He posted he was determined to return to his old self.

Daniel Flescher says he grew up on Weiss’s movies. Flescher now lives across the street from the Marysville home where the one-time child star is accused of breaking in.

“That is a different guy then I saw as a kid…way different,” Flescher said.

“It just shows, somebody that really had their game going on right,” Binnenger said.

Weiss was booked into the Yuba County Jail for being under the influence of meth and residential burglary. He is being held on $25,000 bail.
