ESCALON (CBS13) – Both directions of Highway 120 were closed after a deadly fiery crash involving a big rig and two other vehicles Tuesday morning.

The scene was at French Camp Road, between Manteca and Escalon.

According to California Highway Patrol, a big rig, SUV and sedan were involved in a crash just before 7:30 a.m. Officers say a 60-year-old man driving the SUV for, for an unknown reason, turned right into the path of the oncoming big rig.

A sedan that was following behind the SUV was also involved in the resulting crash.

Officers say the driver of the SUV was pronounced dead at the scene. A 21-year-old woman and a 7-year-old who were in the sedan had minor to moderate injuries.

Investigators believe neither drugs nor alcohol were factors in the crash.

The road wasn’t fully clear until a little after noon.

  1. The number of big rig fatal accidents have sky rocketed. Why isn’t the press on top of this? How about an expose of what really goes on with those rig drivers.
