SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — California’s gas tax is going up again as of July 1.
As of Wednesday, the tax is increasing by 3.2 cents per gallon.
This pushes the tax to over 50 cents a gallon.
A new law, SB1, that went into effect back in 2017 automatically boosts the tax when the consumer price index rises. Money raised from the tax goes to improving the state’s infrastructure, like maintaining California’s highways.
The gas tax is projected to net the state around $7 billion this fiscal year.
