MODESTO (CBS13) — Authorities say a pedestrian has died after being struck by two cars on Highway 99 in Modesto early Monday morning.

The California Highway Patrol says the 41-year-old Modesto man was walking on the northbound side of the freeway just north of the Sierra Drive overcrossing in downtown Modesto when, just before 3 a.m., he was struck by a vehicle.

The impact sent the man into the middle lane, where he was struck by another vehicle. This caused the second vehicle to lose control and crash into a guardrail.

Officers say the pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.

The second driver stayed at the scene but investigators are still looking for that first driver that hit the pedestrian.

Highway 99 was closed for several hours but has since reopened.

Either he was suicidal, or high as a kite, this is like the 3rd person killed, these homeless ppl camp out on the areas by the on& off ramps, get high decide to go walk on the freeway, thinking it is the street or what. LIke the man i saw walk right into the side of the train about 2 months ago at 7th & Toualume abt 9;30 on a Saturday morning it was about the 4th car, he just turned and walked into it, it grabbed him by the clothes, slammed him up on the side of the car & threw him off, i watched him do it, walking along the tracks, took a turn right into it, either he was high as a kite or suicidal but i got a whole new respect for trains, scared as hell of them too. These ppl living on these patches of land are creating a hazard not to mention the dogs that get loose & killed, why have an animal live by a freeway,
