ROSEVILLE (CBS13) — The Roseville Galleria has reopened at 25% capacity and shoppers are excited to be back.

“I’m glad it’s open,” Roseville resident Don Nelson said.

But not every store has reopened. Several have shut down and been emptied out. The Galleria says some of the stores could reopen but others may never make it back.

“It’s a huge struggle for a small family business,” Sandy Powell, owner of Fox Creek, said.

Fox Creek is less than a year old and brand new to the Roseville Galleria. Powell said her small business was able to hang on, but it wasn’t easy.

“When you have all that much money invested and buying merchandise and then just having it sit there all by itself in a darkened store with nobody coming in, that really took a hit on us financially,” Powell said.

With the mall at a quarter of its usual capacity, they may not make sales, and opening up shop might not be worth it.

A spokesperson for the mall said there’s a lot of work to be done to recover from the pandemic and a part of that is stabilizing the economy and getting businesses reopened.

We can’t “recover from the pandemic” until its eradicated. With people refusing to wear masks, that’ll never happen. And I won’t be going to any malls or theaters or other crowded anything for at least 6-12 months. To fix the economy and reopen businesses, we have to get rid of covid like most other countries did.

Placer County has had more deaths from suicide and drug overdoses than from covid. In July we had almost as many deaths from falls and pneumonia. Those dying from this virus are over on average over 78 with multiple chronic comorbidities. All we needed to do was protect the sick and elderly, and the rest of us could have continued on with our lives. School children could have remained in school. Instead we locked everyone down, destroyed our economy, drove people to suicide, and then forced covid positive patients into nursing homes killing tens of thousands nationwide.

Too many Clothing stores, too many stores selling BS like Flip Flops, Gym Shoes. I haven’t walked in to at least 60% of the stores because I would never buy Flip Flops or Gym shoes at the Galeria. Just like all the Strip Malls at every corner of this country paired with at least 3 Gas Stations at an Intersection – who will miss them?
