Questions Remain After West Sacramento Standoff Ends

WEST SACRAMENTO (CBS13) - A suspect barricaded himself inside a West Sacramento home after leading police on a car chase Monday afternoon.

Police, K9's and helicopters were all deployed to the residence on Elliot Street in West Sacramento where they were eventually able to contain the situation but not before disrupting the neighborhood.

A police helicopter circling the sky warning neighbors to stay inside.

"I just feel like with the helicopter telling everyone to go back inside that you guys are just protecting everybody, 'hey stay indoors, this person's out here' be safe protect your family," saaid Alexia Wheeler who lives nearby.

According to police, a suspect led officers on a car chase through local West Sacramento roads, then ran into a home on Elliot, street demanding the residents inside leave immediately.

"Don't put other families in danger," said Wheeler.

Police quickly swarmed the suspect while neighbors looked on.

Alexia Wheeler lives nearby.

"It does make me nervous," she said.

Wheeler says the community is full of families, disappointed they were put in harm's way.

"It feels really unsafe for the children," said Carly Brannin, who lives nearby.

Swat officers, K9's, and helicopters are a sight no neighbor wants to see. They hope something like this won't happen again.

"I want to get out of this area," said Nadine Humphrey, who lives in West Sacramento.

The suspect at the center of the incident still has not been identified by police and it's unclear if he has a relationship with the residents.

CBS13 did ask police several times to clarify whether or not the suspect was arrested or in custody. They only say the incident has been contained.
