SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — Deputies are investigating after two students were shot near Florin High School, the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office said Thursday afternoon.
The teens, who are both students at the high school, were both shot in the leg. One of them is 17 and the age of the other is unknown at this time.READ MORE: On Anniversary Of Roe V. Wade, Governor Newsom And First Partner Siebel Newsom Affirm California’s Commitment To Reproductive Freedom
Both injuries were described as non-life-threatening and there was no information on a suspected gunman. No arrests have been made, authorities said.
Shawna Mangal and her daughter Sasha were inside their home near Summer Sky Drive when they heard banging at the door.
“It sounded like something was wrong and I was trying to get to the door and unlock it as fast as I could,” Shawna said.
Their neighborhood was now part of a shooting investigation. They watched as deputies spent hours searching for evidence.
According to the sheriff’s office, it was not considered a school shooting, but the shooting happened near campus at around 3:40 p.m. at Summer Sky and Bastien Court. School had already been let out, but a spokesperson for the sheriff’s office said the school was shut down for a brief moment.READ MORE: Carjacking in Stockton Park District Friday Evening
Moments before the commotion, Shawna saw more than a dozen teens in the area, but when she opened the door no, one was there.
“One student said to another ‘Hey man, we need to get out of here,'” Shawna said.
“These kids are just throwing away their lives,” said a man named Roman who did not want to share his last name.
Roman also lives nearby and heard the gunfire. He said he heard about “four or five shots.”
He’s discouraged by the violence impacting the youth as investigators search for a motive.
“Hust praying for the kids, I just think that people need to take life more seriously,” Roman said.MORE NEWS: Governor Newsom Statement On Death Of Elk Grove Police Officer
