Stick Of Dynamite Prompts Bomb Squad Response, Safely Removed From Vehicle In Nevada City

NEVADA CITY (CBS13) – A stick of dynamite prompted an evacuation and bomb squad response in Nevada City on Wednesday.

A local couple called Nevada City police when they discovered the item while cleaning out storage. Police later learned the item was given to them by an acquaintance years ago, and the couple had called to have it properly disposed of.

The item was placed into the couple's vehicle until law enforcement arrived.

Police said the item was the same shape and size of a typical stick of dynamite and was determined to be homemade.

Nevada City police had urged people to stay clear of the 200, 300, and 400 block of Broad Street. But shortly before 4 p.m., authorities said the explosive was safely removed and the area was reopened.

Explosive experts cooperated with police during the incident.
