Fire In American River Parkway Caused By Minor Lighting Fireworks

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — A fire burning along the American River Parkway late Saturday afternoon was caused by a minor lighting fireworks, officials said.

Metro Fire of Sacramento said just before 6 p.m. that crews were still on scene battling the spot fire along a stretch of the American River Bike Trail, though an exact location is unclear at this time.

No injuries were reported and no structures were threatened.

Just last month, Sacramento County approved fines of up to $10,000 for the use of illegal fireworks on the American River Parkway as a way to crack down on use heading into the Fourth of July holiday. The county Board of Supervisors approved the new fine saying that the area is an ecological and recreational asset that must be protected.

At this point, it is unclear what type of fireworks caused Saturday's fire, but officials say the minor was arrested and will be fined.
