Laura Haefeli is a dedicated journalist with a passion for breaking news. She joined the CBS13 team in February 2020 as a reporter after working at News 12 Networks in the greater New York City area.
Laura was raised in the shadow of New York City by parents who both worked in the industry, allowing her to learn the ropes of working behind the camera as well as what it meant to be in front of one. It takes a village to raise a child and Laura’s grateful that her village was the New York City press corps, inspiring her to eventually join their ranks.
She spent her formative years as a competitive athlete, playing volleyball, basketball, and softball, which has translated to an intense work ethic, hustle, and a coachable demeanor. When she decided to enter the media industry, she started with an internship at Saturday Night Live, traveling back to NYC from her now alma mater, Syracuse University, every show weekend during her junior and senior years. Upon graduation, Laura started work at NY1, getting her feet wet in the news business by working in the fastest-paced city in the country.
Once she moved on to work for News 12 Networks as a reporter, she broke the story of a drug ring in Westchester and Orange Counties, covered the pipe bomb sent to CNN in New York City, the Belmont Bronx fire in which 12 people were killed, local and national elections, along with events that matter to communities from murders to parades. Laura even got to cover the 50th anniversary of Woodstock.
The New York City area means a lot to Laura. She will always be a Yankees fan and even has the patience and optimism to root for the Knicks and Giants. And while she acknowledges New York has the best pizza, Laura firmly believes that New Jersey is home to the best bagels.
Period. Full stop.
Laura’s excited to be a part of the CBS13 team. She’s already hard at work getting answers for the viewers and is ready for all the fresh produce and sunshine the Golden State has to offer.
Let’s do this!
