- Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s 2018 Man & Woman CampaignAt the annual Grand Finale Gala held at the Hyatt Regency on May 12th, the winners of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) 2018 Man & Woman of the Year campaign were announced. Josh Corell of Tri Counties Bank was named Man of the Year, and Drisha Leggitt of Anpac Bio was named Woman of the Year. Four men and four women business leaders were candidates in this year’s fundraising competition. The Greater Sacramento Area Chapter of LLS also had its first ever All Star Candidate, Delbert Stapp of Harv’s Car Wash. All Stars are alums of the campaign that compete on a national level with other All Stars in LLS Chapters across the country. Together the Man and Woman of the Year campaign, which includes the All Star, raised over $450,000 to support blood cancer research, new lifesaving therapies and vital patient services. Man & Woman of the Year is philanthropic competition to support blood cancer research among a group of motivated and dedicated individuals in communities across the United States. Candidates form powerful fundraising teams and compete in honor of children who are blood cancer survivors.
Neighbor Works Annual Art, Wine & Food Classic FundraiserOn August 18th, Neighbor Works Annual Art, Wine & Food Classic Fundraiser was held at the Tsakopoulos Library Galleria. Founded by a small group of residents who wanted to improve their distressed neighborhood, Sacramento Neighborhood Housing Services was created in 1987. Now doing business as NeighborWorks® HomeOwnership Center Sacramento Region (NeighborWorks® Sacramento), the organization has changed and grown, but the heart of its mission remains the same. Initially, Sacramento Neighborhood Housing Services served just four neighborhoods in Sacramento. Today, NeighborWorks® Sacramento serves an 11-county region from two offices, and its program offerings include a full range of services to assist potential and current homeowners. The mission is to “provide opportunities for successful homeownership and strong communities through quality education, affordable lending, supportive partnership and dedicated leadership.”

WIND Youth Services Summer Soiree and FundraiserWind Youth Services’ Summer Soiree was celebrated at the new Wind Youth Center at 815 S Street on Friday, July 27th. The fun evening of local food and drink was emceed by Rob Stewart of KVIE’s Rob on the Road. Wind Youth Services provides supportive services and opportunities to youth experiencing homelessness. It is estimated that on any given night in Sacramento, there are 250 homeless youth on the streets. Wind Youth Services aims to end the cycle of youth homelessness. The new Wind Youth Center will offer wrap around services for youth; it is here they can enter one front door and access case management, crisis counseling, a warm meal, clothes, respite and a hot shower. SMUD presented Wind a check for $100,000 as the largest grantee of the inaugural SMUD Shine Awards. The money from SMUD will fund the restrooms, solar and showers at the Wind Youth Center.
