- Sacramento Black Chamber Annual Installation and Awards LuncheonThe Sacramento Black Chamber of Commerce hosted its annual Installation and Awards Luncheon at the Hilton Sacramento Arden West on January 23rd for over 300 members, sponsors and supporters. It was the Chamber’s 34th Installation event. Awards were given to the SBCC’s Presenting Sponsor, SMUD who received the Community Partnership award and to Lorrie Clark, who earned the coveted Volunteer of the Year award. Lorrie is a Project Manager for the City of Sacramento’s Economic Development Department. Board members installed included: Marinda Sessoms, Lorrie Clark, Ira Williams, Michael Poindexter, Rahim Reed, Nicole Howard, Michelle Picard, Margaret Fortune, Chris Flores, Keon Huston, Robert B.J. Snowden, Erin Thuston, Mellonie Richardson, Marcellene Watson-Derbigny, Robynne Rose-Haymer and Jacques Whitfield.

Wide Open Walls ARTMIX at the Crocker MuseumOn August 8th, the Crocker Museum hosted ARTMIX to kick-off opening day for Wide Open Walls Mural Festival, August 8-18th. Wide Open Walls is a 501(3)(c) whose mission is to promote and celebrate public art. Wide Open Walls brings underserved neighborhoods public art that encourages a sense of pride and identity; provides community gathering spaces; generates impact, measurable economic growth for the Sacramento region; and promotes greater cultural understanding and appreciation amongst diverse groups. The organization’s mission is personified through its annual festival in August that brings local, national and international artists together to transform Sacramento with original and stunning street art. Additionally, Wide Open Walls supports other events throughout the year – including The Mural Jam, Sac Republic’s Paint The Park, and the Playa Art Trail.
