Sacramento First 5 “Raise UP Sacramento” Reception and AwardsOn January 8, at the Golden One Center, First 5 of Sacramento held “Raise UP Sacramento” and awards. First 5 Sacramento celebrates 20 years of improving the lives of local children and families, including the campaign achievements to reduce the alarming death rate of African-American children who die at twice the rate of other children. First 5 also inspired a movement among local businesses called “Raise Up Sacramento, From Cradle to Career” which encourages innovative approaches to family-friendly workplace. The Sacramento Kings will be honored for their remarkable efforts on behalf of local families enjoying events at the Golden 1 Center. Family-friendly features include a Tot-Lot, a Mamava Breastfeeding Pod (breastfeeding room) and a Sensory Room for people with sensory regulation challenges. Since 1998, First 5 has worked on behalf of children and families across the state, helping them receive the best possible start in life so they can thrive. First 5 Sacramento has an annual budget of $12 million in Prop 10 funding and serves 61,314 children ages 0-5 along with their caregivers. Urban Land Institute Emerging Trends in Real EstateThe Urban Land Institute Sacramento's annual ULI Emerging Trends program was held on December 12 at the Citizen Hotel, downtown, Sacramento. This event presented an overview on the latest national real estate trends, while also providing valuable local insights specific to the Sacramento market. Emerging Trends in Real Estate is a publication with a 35-year history and one of the most highly-regarded and widely-read trends reports in the real estate industry produced by Pricewaterhouse Coopers and ULI. Following our keynote address by Anita Kramer, ULI’s Senior Vice President, Center for Capital Markets and Real Estate, Aaron Marchand moderated a panel with leading Sacramento Real Estate experts to discuss Regional Market and Trends. Panelists included Deana Ellis with Cresleigh Homes, Jim Gray, with Kidder Matthews, Amy Lerseth with Buzz Oates Real Estate and Rick Martinez, CBRE.
Sacramento Hispanic Chamber Latina Estrella Luncheon and AwardsOn Tuesday, December 11th, the Sacramento Hispanic Chamber of Commerce hosted the 4th Annual Latina Estrella Awards. The event recognizes exceptional leaders in our region. This year, City of Sacramento Councilwoman Angelique Ashby was the guest speaker. Four awards were given: Karina Talamantes, Rising Estrella, Ramona Landeros, Champion Estrella, Clarissa Laguardia, Inspiration Estrella, and Carolina Rojas-Gore, Legacy Estrella. The Junior League of Sacramento, Inc is an organization of women committed to promoting voluntarism, developing the potential of women, and improving communities through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers. Its purpose is exclusively educational and charitable.
Hope Cooperative Stand Up Sacramento Comedy Showcase And FundraiserOn November 28, the 6th annual Stand Up Sacramento Comedy Showcase and fundraiser was held at the Crest Theatre, downtown Sacramento. Hope Cooperative (formerly TLCS, Inc.) is overwhelmed with gratitude to the Sacramento community. They came out in force to support the most vulnerable among us, people with serious mental illness, many of whom are experiencing homelessness. With the unveiling of their new name, they also launched an inaugural “Carrier of Hope” Award presented to none other than Mayor Darrell Steinberg, for his leadership and commitment to support programs that help mentally ill, homeless folks in the region. The evening was capped off with an announcement that Hope Cooperative (formerly TLCS, Inc.) was awarded the Bank of America Neighborhood Builders $200,000 award for 2019. Thank you to all who came out to support their critical services and programs.

Sacramento Regional Family Justice Center Celebration and FundraiserOn November 9, the Sacramento Regional Family Justice Center held the third annual Hope Thrives Here Celebration, “Village of Hope” at California State University. Honorees were Kryiakos and Brianne Tsakopoulos. The Sacramento Regional Family Justice Center (FJC) collaborative provides victims and their families with a “one stop” facility to report a crime, provide a complete statement taken by a detective or a trained child interviewer, get assistance to obtain a temporary restraining order, find safe housing, meet their prosecutor and victim advocate to learn what will happen in court, and most importantly, find the support they need to keep them from falling back into the hands of the accused.
Saint John’s Program for Real Change Party and FundraiserParty for Change, held Saturday, November 3 at the Mather Jet Center, proved to be the event of the season, with nearly 600 of Sacramento’s finest showing their support for Saint John’s Program for Real Change, the city’s largest residential program for homeless women and their children. The event featured contemporary American cuisine by Chef Brad Cecchi of popular East Sacramento restaurant Canon, dance and aerialist performances by the Sacramento Contemporary Dance Theatre, music by famed Las Vegas DJ E-Noc and a live auction. Councilwoman Angelique Ashby and Sierra Health Foundation President and CEO Chet Hewitt were honored at the 2018 Champions of Change. The event raised more than $500,000 in support of Saint John’s, which has helped more than 30,000 women and children move from poverty and dependence to confidence and self-sufficiency since its inception in 1985.
