Any list of bars with patios must have Der Biergarten in the No. 1 spot, as this casual and lively beer garden is all patio. Built on a vacant lot on the corner of 24th and K, one cargo container was set up to hold the bar supplies and another to house the restrooms, but everything else happens outside. Communal Biergarten tables were shipped over from Germany, and patrons can relax with their choice from a rotating selection of 32 draft beers. A short menu offers items like German smoked ham, cream cheese and onions served on a waffle with sauerkraut on the side, as well as sausage platters and warm apple strudel. There is no television nor music, but the patio is the perfect spot to people watch, play foosball, corn hole or ping-pong.

This tap room has a very comfortable courtyard patio, and patrons take full advantage of it even when the weather is less than hospitable. Capitol is part pub and part beer store, and the friendly employees love to talk about the world of brews. Craft beers are served by bottle or from 20+ taps; the bar only purchases one keg at a time, so the selections change continually. A recent tap list includes some harder to find brews such as Clown Shoes’ Undead Party Crasher Imperial Stout, Sierra Nevada Close Call Kolsch and Coco-Lime Blonde by the brewers at Black Market Deception. No food is served, but the owners allow you to bring in your own comestibles or to have food delivered by nearby restaurants.

Stop by Pangaea for lunch, dinner or weekend brunch, and relax indoors or out. The outdoor patio wraps around on both sides of the entrance, separated from the sidewalk by a wooden barrel stave barrier; dogs are welcome to enjoy the patio along with their people. Patio guests can take in the sights while enjoying an iced coffee by local Chocolate Fish Roasters, a glass from the wine list, or beers like red label Chimay and a Karl Strauss sour ale made with tamarind and chile. The café’s interior is relaxed and casual-hip, with funky artwork and the occasional pink elephant. The menu offers everything from mussels and fries, veggie sandwiches and braised lamb ravioli to spaghetti, scallops and crab cake salad.

Visit Spain from the tables of this popular bar and eatery, which has a patio in front that looks out over the interesting comings and goings of Midtown. The restaurant serves authentic Spanish and Basque foods and is open until midnight every day, making it a perfect spot to hang out and enjoy the scenery with a sangria on a summer evening. Although the restaurant does not have a lot of extra space, there is enough room for live flamenco and classic guitar music several days a week.

Kupros is a hip gastropub located in a restored, two-story house that was built in 1910. There is patio seating on both the first and second floors, so there is plenty of space to enjoy meals, snacks and drinks outside. Have a mimosa with Kalua pork hash or chocolate French toast for breakfast or grab a pint of locally brewed Rusted Butte Red Ale with wings, skirt steak or vegetarian dishes later in the day. The menu is adventurous and tempting and happy hour prices make it a perfect patio on which to relax.
