Best Places To Go Ice Skating In The Sacramento Area

Fall is here and winter is closing in. One way to enjoy the weather is to go ice skating with friends and family. Sacramento has a great selection of venues to enjoy the ice, especially during the holiday season. With options in both the downtown area and some a drive outside of the city, the ice is waiting. The only choice left to make is who to invite.


Downtown Sacramento Ice Rink

This seasonal ice rink has a great location next to the Downtown Plaza mall. The nearby restaurants and shopping make this an easy way to spend the day or just a few hours. Midweek specials include Family Night on Tuesday (4 p.m. - 6 p.m.), with one child admission and skate rental free with each paid adult admission and skate rental. Wednesday is Sacramento Downtown Plaza night. A receipt from any plaza store will get you free skate rental. Thursday is DJ Theme Night (6 p.m. - 8 p.m.). Dress in the theme and receive a free skate rental.

This is a seasonal rink in Historic Downtown Folsom with shops, dining and sights that create a great holiday outing for the family. Mondays are Chamber Discount Night. With a Chamber discount card, Monday skating is a two-for-one night, excluding November 22, December 20 and December 27. Wednesdays are Dine and Skate nights with discount packages offered at local Historic Folsom eateries, excluding November 24, December 22 and December 29. Another special night is January 11. From 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., it is a fundraiser for Habitat for Humanity. Come out and skate for a good cause.

Skatetown Roseville is a complete skating arena, which is open year-round except November 22 for Thanksgiving. The facility features a cafe and two NHL-size rinks. Reservations are available by calling the rink. Each month has a theme night so check the website for the special events. The full schedule of public sessions is available on the website as well.

The Iceland Skating Rink was destroyed in 2010, however it has since been rebuilt and will be open for business again. The rink has full services available including skate rentals, lessons and party reservations. The new open-air venue allows for skating in the sunshine or under the stars while enjoying an ice rink which has been in operation since 1940. This year will mark 72 years of fun on the ice. A store is available at the rink with Iceland gear for sale.

If planning a trip to Reno, try your skills out on the river's ice. Being about a two-hour drive from Sacramento, this makes for a great destination outing. Rink on the River is an outdoor venue located beside the Truckee River with dining and shopping nearby. Operation is weather dependent but a call to the hotline should provide the necessary information. Group rates and private rink rentals are available by calling the hotline as well. Free parking is available at the Cal Neva garage.
