Best Ways To Celebrate National Star Wars Day Near Sacramento

May 4 is known throughout the galaxy, both near and far, as National Star Wars Day. And, with the most popular film franchise having released the latest installment in December 2015, fans are as excited as ever to celebrate this iconic pop-culture institution. Residents of Sacramento can celebrate this growing "holiday" by checking out the following list of places and activities that will aid in creating a unique Star Wars experience.

Located at the old McClellan Air Force base, The Aerospace Museum is an amazing showcase of aviation, science and ingenuity. Drawing over 250,000 visitors per year, this museum displays many great exhibits and a wealth of fascinating information. For Star Wars fans, there's a flight simulation center that provides an experience akin to being on the Millennium Falcon or an X-Wing Fighter. Do your best Han Solo, or Chewbacca, impression as you explore what it's like to take to the skies or outer space.

The Hulbe Observatory, which is located at Sacramento City College, is open and free to the public on the first Friday of each month from September to May, not including January. This observatory was named after Christoph Hulbe, who spent nearly 40 years as a member of the Physics Department at Sac City. The main telescope will allow visitors to see out into space like never before and provide a great opportunity for Star Wars fanatics to feel one step closer to their beloved film franchise and its larger-than-life characters.

Admission: Tours are $60 - $75

Rancho Obi-Wan is the world's largest private Star Wars memorabilia collection. It's located about an hour away from Sacramento on private property just west of Petaluma. Directions are only given out after you book a tour through their website. Tours can range from $60 - $75, with kids under 12 being free. This museum is an immersive experience for Star Wars fans as they can see memorabilia from their childhood all the way up to the most recently released toy lines. There are movie props, action figures and so much more. It's like a Star Wars paradise. The tours last between 2 and 4 hours and are strictly based on the availability listed on the official website.

Located a little more than an hour from Sacramento, Imagination Park is a public park found in the heart of a small and quaint town — San Anselmo. The town is the birthplace of Star Wars and Indiana Jones and has become a very popular destination for diehard Star Wars fans. It's where George Lucas lived when he created these film franchises and where he still holds a residence. This park has a life-size statue of Yoda and of Indiana Jones. It's open to the public from sunrise to sunset and sits on land that George Lucas donated to the town.
