The Second Saturday Art Walk is an exciting confluence of art in many of its forms. The public has the opportunity to experience the talents of gifted local painters, performers, musicians, photographers, sculptors, designers, dancers, jewelry-makers and more, all in a relaxed and fun environment. The next Second Saturday event, held on the evening of December 13, will offer many options for holiday shopping and holiday fun. There will be specials at numerous galleries, restaurants, shops and booths, with something to entertain, tempt the taste buds and expand the worldview of visitors of every age.

Participating Museums

This popular annual event, now in its 17th year, allows the public to visit participating museums for free. Presented and organized by the Sacramento Convention & Visitors Bureau and the Sacramento Association of Museums, the event is an excellent introduction to 25 local museums. Since the event is limited to one day, it is suggested that guests choose only two or three to visit. There is wide range of museums from which to choose, depending on your personal interests, and many feature amazing works of art. Consider checking out the Center for Contemporary Art, Sojourner Truth Multicultural Arts Museum and California State Capitol Museum; the latter has a wide selection of artwork, antiques and historical artifacts from this great state.

Children are born with a natural love of art, and are often more comfortable expressing themselves than adults. And while many forms of art are neat, controlled and linear, kids know that getting creative is particularly fun when you can get messy doing it. Artful Tot is designed especially for toddlers aged 19-36 months and lets them explore different materials such as fabric and clay. Your budding artist can learn to mix colors and about things like printmaking, all while having glorious, messy fun. A parent or other caregiver will stay and have a good time too, and younger siblings can come along at no cost. The fee, which includes admission to the museum, is $10 per toddler or $7 each for Crocker Museum members.

Diego Rivera, Alejandro Santiago, Gunther Gerzso and Remedios Varo are among the notable 20th century artists whose work is featured in this exhibition. The range of paintings and artworks on paper were specifically selected with an aim toward challenging people's traditional perceptions of Mexican art. The exhibition is open now through February 1, 2015.

Semenov is an underwater photographer and is the diving team chief at Moscow State University's remote White Sea Biological Station research facility. His extensive experience with underwater lighting and cameras has allowed him to create truly stunning photographs, some of which have been seen in the Discovery Channel, National Geographic, Science News and the BBC.
