Foursquare CEO and co-founder Dennis Crowley and editor-at-large Sarah Spagnolo kick off the Foursquare On the Pin podcast with an eclectic mix of guests: super-cool couple Doug Jaeger and Kristin Sloan of creative agency JaegerSloan; Austin’s best-known ramen chef Tatsu Aikawa of Ramen Tatsu-Ya, and Foursquare local expert Renato Valdés on his top picks in San Francisco and Amsterdam. To see the list of all bars and restaurants mentioned in the podcast, download the Foursquare app and save this list.

Coffee in SoHo is a hot-button topic around the Foursquare office. Jaeger and Sloan showed up at the Foursquare HQ with to-go cups from Saturdays Surf NYC, a coffee shop and surf shop on Crosby Street. Crowley’s go-to, meanwhile, is Think Coffee or Little Cupcake Bake Shop, for its decadent mix of coffee and desserts (don’t miss the black-and-white cake).

Equally as controversial? The best Lower East Side bar. Favorites for this crew include The Magician, on Rivington, where the front booths are prime for people watching, says Crowley; Pianos, on Ludlow, for happy hour and live music. Or follow Jaeger and Sloan to Lure Fishbar and Odeon, two of their favorites for craft cocktails, and Puffy’s for the Monday sandwich special.

When the Austin king of ramen shares a tip for how to do eat ramen the right way, we listen and we listen well. Here’s what he has to say: Don’t mix around the ingredients; the Ramen Tatsu-ya dish is meant to eaten in various layers of flavor. #whoknew? Foursquare users love his Tonkotsu Ramen, which was just awarded Top Ramen in Austin according to Foursquare’s Tastes That Make The City campaign.

For intel on the San Francisco food scene, Spagnolo called Renato Valdés, a best user with bona-fide expertise in Chinese restaurants, seafood restaurants, and more. His take: Try So for Korean-Chinese fusion, Eric’s Restaurant for a more authentic Chinese feel, and Chino, in the Mission, for Chinese chicken wings. Other top choices include Greek restaurant Souvla, in Hayes Valley, and 20th Century Cafe, where Valdés says to try the tomato bagel (he’s not alone; Foursquare users agree—check out the tips.). As an Amsterdam native, his picks of the bike-friendly city are on-point. His advice is don’t miss Scandinavian Embassy and Café Bax.
