Style Icon Keira Knightly: Recreate The Look
By Bella Q
Here are the key pieces to Keira Knightly's day look:
Black Knit Cap
Oversized Sunglasses
Layered necklaces
Over-sized worn Army Jacket
Black T-shirt or Tank top
Black Jeggings
*optional: Oversized Take-out Coffee cup
The best thing about Keira's outfit is that it includes garments and accessories that might already reside your closet. If you don't already own these basics, try finding them at a local shop. What wardrobe is complete without a basic black T-shirt or a simple black tank? Not yours. And black jeggings, aka jean/leggings (or skinny stretch jeans) are de rigueur wearing under oversized sweaters and blazers. If you don't have a standard pair of jeggings or basic black T-shirt, you need to pick these up stat!
While not everybody loves a beanie, I personally find a black knit beanie an essential for keeping the head warm as well as adding a bit of grunge-y goodness to casual winter outfits. This super soft knitted topper was picked up for under $20 bucks at Cuffs Urban Apparel. Cuffs, also carries a terrific selection of affordable yet fashion forward sunglasses, too. You can grab yourself a pair of trendy shades that start at $15.
What upgrades this possibly androgynous look to chic is the jewelry: strands of layered necklaces that alternate between gold chain links and beads. Legacy in Midtown carries an affordable option. We layered 3 of them to re-create this look. At around $30 bucks a piece, these necklaces were a conversation starter. Within 10 minutes of wearing them, the model was approached by 2 women and asked where she got them! Another great source for versatile jewelry are thrift stores. This N That Thrift & Gift is a charity-based thrift store that offers a wide selection of new + secondhand jewelry. You can score a handful, suitable for layering, for under five dollars each.
The pivotal piece to this Kiera Knightly day look is the well-worn Army jacket. A military- style jacket is a unisex + utilitarian garment that never goes out of style, and carries with it a surprising amount of versatility. There are a variety of design variations about, ranging in price from $10 -$150 dollars, depending on where you look. I highly recommend hitting the consignment and thrift stores first, since the coat looks great already broken in, there is no need to buy one brand new. Some great Army Jacket options were found at French Cuff Consignment, Thrift Town and This N That Thrift & Gift, all for well under $40 bucks.
