Why is this my number one pick? Because it is the oldest existing Filipino restaurant in town, dating back to 1981. Although it sits in the middle of an old strip mall in South Sacramento, it has a solid and loyal client base and is most known for its crispy pata and pansit. It's a small restaurant with a Chinese and Filipino menu, run by a husband and wife who have seen the rise and fall of other restaurants in the area. They simply credit their success to hard work, and to loyal customers.

This restaurant is the second oldest, an offshoot from the sibling chefs who created the old Chinoy's Restaurant on Mack Road. It serves the gamut of traditional, home-style Filipino dishes, along with a Chinese menu. Spacious and warm, this restaurant is the perfect place to dine if you want to eat the various foods that your parents cook at home.

A transplant from the Bay Area, this small restaurant is most known for its Filipino-style fried chicken. Unlike Kentucky Fried Chicken, Church's or Popeye's, their chicken is fried without a thick batter coating, relying more on its crackling crisp skin. It also serves other traditional Filipino dishes (dinuguan, pork barbecue, etc.), and offers numerous combo meals to suit your tastes.

While this is indeed a small, sit-down restaurant located inside Seafood City, it is most noted for its incredible selection of delicious Filipino cakes. Unlike nearby Valerio's Bakery (which sells delicious bread-based pastries), Red Ribbon also has a small menu that serves Filipino food classics. You can't go wrong with any of their cakes (ideal for parties), and their Sans Rival cake is out of this world.
