If you love animals then this is a great opportunity for you and your family. The Front Street Animal Shelter has many volunteer roles for adults and children. These roles include taking care of animals within the shelter, fostering animals in your home, raise funds and awareness, create community projects, or lead a donation drive. Each role requires a commitment of time and resources. Additionally, there are orientation classes for new volunteers.

The Union Gospel Mission has been serving the homeless population of Sacramento since 1962. It's grown from just a few volunteers to providing many critical services to the homeless. Volunteers can come serve food in the shelter or work in the Women's Closet which provides clothes for women and children. Although this is a Christian based organization, people of all backgrounds are welcomed and encouraged to join in the efforts of reaching out to the homeless population.

This summer is the perfect opportunity to join the City of Sacramento in mulching trees and cleaning up garbage in the parks that your kids play at. There are nine different parks that have enlisted the services of volunteers to aid in the beautification process. Loaves & Fishes is a Christian based organization and the largest homeless outreach in Sacramento, providing services and supplies to homeless men, women, and children. The official site has a Needs List, which is a great place to start in your volunteer efforts. Raise donations within your community to meet these needs and drop them off at the base camp. While there, you can also help out in other services like cooking, serving food or assisting in the Mustard Seed School.
