Former Nurse Gets 10-Month Jail Term For Stealing Pills From Patients

PLACER COUNTY (CBS13) – A registered nurse in charge of an assisted living facility in Roseville is going to jail for stealing pain medication from patients.

Placer County Superior Court Judge Frances Kearney sentenced 64-year-old Marlene Delp to jail and placed her on three years probation calling Delp's crime "a pretty horrific violation of trust".

Delp also is banned from providing healthcare to anyone during her probation.

Delp plead no contest to two felony counts - cruelty to a dependent adult and possession of a controlled substance – in October.

While Delp had previously denied she had any drug problems, she apologized to her victims at her sentencing.

"I disgraced my profession, my employer and myself," she said. "I made bad judgments. I deeply, deeply regret it. I will live under this shadow until the day I die. God forbid that I have permanently harmed anyone."

Delp was fired from her job.  She is also now under investigation by the California Board of Registered Nurses and could have her license revoked.
