Inmate Walks Away From Bay Area Jail

DUBLIN (AP) — Alameda County Sheriff's deputies were searching for an inmate they said walked away from Santa Rita Jail after returning from court.

21-year-old Ismael Cesda, also known as Ismael Ramirez, was discovered missing during a head count around 11 p.m. Tuesday, according to Sgt. J.D. Nelson.

He had returned from the Fremont courthouse a few hours earlier.  Cesda somehow managed to get into the area of the jail where inmates are released, said Nelson.

Sheriff's officials were trying to determine whether that was the result of human error or a flaw in the jail's design.

Cesda is facing stolen vehicle and pursuit charges. He is described as 5-feet-6 inches tall and 140 pounds. He was last seen wearing a grey sweat suit.
