Skier Found Dead At Sugar Bowl Ski Resort

NORDEN, Calif. (AP) -- A search team has recovered the body of a skier from a Northern California resort.

Placer County Sheriff's Lt. Jeff Ausnow says John Hoffman, who was 58, was reported missing Monday night when he failed to return to his home in Oakland. He had been on a day trip to Sugar Bowl, a Sierra ski resort 90 miles east of Sacramento.

His body was found early Tuesday on an experts-only run after an all-night search.

Ausnow says Hoffman was considered an expert skier and that a medical problem may have contributed to the death. There were no obvious signs of trauma.

Sugar Bowl, 25 miles from Lake Tahoe, reported 8 feet of fresh snow during a weekend storm lasting through Monday and a total of 24 feet at its peaks.
