Buy It And Try It: Skip Doctor

It's called the skip doctor. First though, let's talk about just how CDs and DVDs get scratched to begin with.

Some parents told me that the biggest offenders are kids. So we decided to do this story with a 3-year-old.

Alice in wonderland, Aristocrats, Clara loves her DVDs. But it's no wonder why a lot of them are scratched.

In fact, her parents tell me that most of their DVDs have been scratched up, and now skip; movies like Shrek.

The Skip Doctor claims it repairs any disc by buffing out scratches. So with Clara's help, we thought we'd try to fix her Shrek DVD.

We end up figuring it out, spray a solution onto the DVD then put it into this gizmo and start cranking. We have to do this twice then use a special cloth to buff it.

It's time to test it. We get past the part that skipped before, but then all of a sudden it stops.

OK, we've seen how it works on DVDs. Let's try a CD.

Clara likes the group Coldplay. But this CD skips. We run it through the skip doctor.

The CD plays better but still skips once.

It's not enough to stop us from tearing up the dance floor.

The Skip Doctor costs $35. The company claims that the more you use it, the more it'll buff out those scratches. We found it didn't fix the discs entirely but they did get better.

It does say that it won't fix severe damage like gouges, deep scratches and warping.
