SACRAMENTO (CBS13) – A mentally ill man who went missing after being released from jail over the weekend has been reunited with his family, according to the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department spokesman Jason Ramos.

Authorities released Aleksandr Smotrov, 50, from jail at 3:30 a.m. Friday without contacting family members, said sister-in-law Natasha Lakhno. Family members were notified about his release hours later.

Smotrov suffers from schizophrenia and has the mind of a child, Lakhno said.
