Missing Hiker Found Safe

KINGS CANYON NATIONAL PARK, Calif. (AP) -- Authorities say a 67-year-old Bishop man who was feared lost during a 104-mile hike through the Sierra Nevada has walked out of the wilderness on his own.

Kings Canyon National Park officials say John Williams hiked out of the park Saturday evening.

Park spokeswoman Dana Dierkes says Williams was in "good health" and that he had sufficient food to complete the trek.

Search and rescue crews had been looking for Williams since Sept. 27 when he was reported overdue.

The National Park Service had about 45 people involved in the search, while Fresno, Tulare, Kern and San Mateo counties had also sent crews to help.
