Matthew Riley was sentenced by Judge Gary Mullen in Sacramento County Superior Court.

Riley went to his parent's south Natomas home and stabbed them to death on Dec. 9, 2008. Steve and Linda Riley each suffered 19 stab wounds, detectives said.

Riley had reportedly lost his job and his family was about to be evicted from their Auburn apartment. He told detectives he went to his parents house to ask to move in with them with his marriage failing, but they refused to take him in.

Riley called 911 the afternoon of the murders to report finding the bodies of his father, 54, and mother, 53. He denied committing the murders and reportedly offered to take a polygraph test. Detectives said he performed poorly on the test.
