Sacramento Raped And Robbed At Home By Stranger

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) - A suspected burglar broke into a home while the victim showered. What happened next has a local community shaken.

Police say the suspect robbed and raped the woman, before running away.

"Naturally, I feel horrible," said Francine Jackson, a neighbor.

People living near a busy light rail station at 12th and E Streets can't believe their ears.

"It frightens me," said Jackson.

A neighbor is allegedly brutally raped and robbed.

"No, the victim did not know the suspect in this case," said Sacramento Police Department spokesperson Ofc. Laura Peck.

Twenty-nine-year-old Aaron Suggs was recently released from state prison for drug possession and is now facing a litany of felony charges for not only sexual assault, but kidnapping as well.

Investigators say Suggs broke into a home while the victim was taking a shower. She got out and noticed the back door was open. And once the victim went to check the back door, she had no idea the suspect was in there with her.

"When she went to secure that door the suspect grabbed her," said Ofc. Peck.

A violent attack ensued. After the sexual assault, Suggs allegedly ransacked the home while the victim listened from a nearby room. Almost 12 hours later, officers caught him sitting at a downtown bus stop.

"And in his possession were some of the belongings taken from the home," said Ofc. Peck.

"So we lock up real tight at night," said Jackson.

Suggs has a criminal history. He most recently was released from prison last year after a drug conviction. Since then, the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation says he's been on probation in Sacramento County.
