UPDATE: Crews Rescue Man Trapped In Yolo County Grain Silo

DUNNIGAN (CBS13) – Emergency crews have rescued a man trapped in a grain silo in Yolo County.

The man became trapped in the silo on County Road 89 in Dunnigan around 11 Tuesday morning. Just after 1 p.m., crews got the man out of the silo.

As rescuers desperately attempt to keep the trapped employee above the grain he slowly sinks...

"The grain is pushed against his body," Williams Fire Department Chief Jeff Gilbert said during the rescue effort. "We're trying to get the grain away from his body."

Early Tuesday morning an emergency dispatcher receives a 9-1-1 call from his fellow employee at a wheat silo in Dunnigan. The man's chest was deep in grain and he reported having problems breathing and his legs were going numb.

Investigators say the 26-year-old and two other employees were performing maintenance in the silo when the victim standing on top of the grain sunk.

While fire crews delicately attempted to extract the victim, employees slowly sucked the grain from around him.
Emergency crews were forced to feed him oxygen, joping the grain was not crushing his chest.

He was nearly entombed by a truck load of wheat.

Four hours later he emerged from the silo and was taken to a waiting life flight helicopter.

Within minutes of being strapped in, he was off to UC Davis Medical Center for treatment.

Fire officials didn't release the name of the victim but said he was in stable condition.
